Safer Internet Group

The following organisations have come together to form the Safer Internet Group (SIG), we agree that Australia needs to take effective action to ensure that Internet users, and particularly children, have a safe experience online. We do not believe that mandatory ISP filtering is the answer. We want to work with the government to focus on the strategies that work best to protect children online.

The Australian Council of State School Organisations [ACSSO] is the national peak body representing the interests of families and school communities. ACCSO promotes safety on the internet through education and does not support a mandatory ISP filter.

Australian Library and Information Association [ALIA] is the professional organisation for the Australian library and information services sector. It seeks to empower the profession in the development, promotion and delivery of quality library and information services to the nation, through leadership, advocacy and mutual support.

iiNet is a member of the Group because we think we need to focus on constructive actions that work  like raising awareness and education, and basing the debate on facts not emotion.

Inspire believes that the internet has immense potential for positively impacting youth mental health and wellbeing. The opportunities available however, can only be fully utilised within a safe online environment. Inspire is committed to making the internet a safe and positive place for children and young people.

Internet Industry Association [IIA] Australia's national Internet industry organisation. the IIA advises governments on ways to promote a faster, safer and more trusted internet for Australia.

The Internet Society is an independent international nonprofit organisation founded in 1992 to provide leadership in Internet related standards, education, and policy around the world.

Internode is an Australian owned, national Internet services provider. We love the Internet - and Internode delivers so much more than just an Internet connection while supporting saftey online.

SAGE-AU is a not-for-profit professional IT organisation. We promote, support and represent System Administrators and IT Operations professionals in Australia. We are the technical people behind the network and adhere to a Code of Ethics which includes requirements to educate users about social and legal issues that arise in computing environment - including safety on the Internet.

Yahoo! has a long history of contributing to a safer online environment and strongly believes in the provision of tools and information to inform individual decisions about how to stay safe online. The Safer Internet Group provides us with an opportunity to collaborate with like-minded organisations to increase awareness of effective safety measures and pool resources to implement targeted safety strategies in Australia.

Google Google is strongly committed to better online safety. We work hard to put users in the driving seat with a range of educational materials and tools. We also partner with a wide range of NGOs in Australia and globally. We welcome the Safer Internet Group as a genuine partnership between like-minded organisations all united in pursuit of a common objective to improve online safety for Internet users in Australia.
